Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument to Yuma

I didn't sleep well, and woke up at DAWN...for those of you who know my opinions about that time of day, do not be shocked. I had a three hour drive to get to Yuma, and a whole list of fun stuff to do there. So I got up early, had breakfast and got on the road.
But dawn was extremely beautiful. Organ Pipe Cactus NM is one of the most amazing places I've been in the Southwest, and I hope to go back again.
This is a cactus woodpecker that was pecking away that morning!
These were some of the pictures I took on the road out of the NM...the light and the clouds were amazing.
One more beautiful cactus, and (believe it or not) the tailings heaps outside Ajo, which are amazingly colorful.

Speaking of colorful, Ajo itself had lots of mosaics and eclectically decorated houses...these are just a sampling.

And the hills on Highway 8 on the way to Yuma were nice too.

And a lovely Motel 6 room for the night. And a shower. Aaaaah.
